The foundation of Gateway of India was laid on 31st of March, 1911 to commemorate Queen Mary and King George V’ visit to India. However, it took almost 13 years to complete the construction of the monument.

The Gateway of India was eventually made open to public on 4th of December in year 1924. In fact today many Indians view Gateway of India as a grand symbol of British colonialism and a sore reminder of India’s colonial rule.

Best time to visit: Since winter is considered as best time to visit Mumbai, so preferably from October to March.
