Gateway of India

Gateway of India is undeniably the most famous monument of Mumbai city. Gateway of India overlooks the beautiful Arabian Sea, which makes for amazing tourist sight and spectacle.

The foundation of Gateway of India was laid on 31st of March, 1911 to commemorate Queen Mary and King George V’ visit to India. However, it took almost 13 years to complete the construction of the monument.

The Gateway of India was eventually made open to public on 4th of December in year 1924. In fact today many Indians view Gateway of India as a grand symbol of British colonialism and a sore reminder of India’s colonial rule.

Gateway of India is always bustling with buzzing action. If you want to escape from crowd then there many eateries and hotels around Gateway of India where you can relish some amazing food.

Just bang opposite Gateway of India is famous Taj Mahal Hotel where you can relish many international and multi-continental cuisines. There are also other well known restaurants like Leopold and Bade Miyan.

Another major attraction of this tourist place is the ferry and boat services, which provides you a short trip of amazing Arabian Sea and natural harbor’s of Mumbai. Late evening you can also visit to Elephanta Caves.

How to reach: Take a cab from nearest railway stations: CST and Churchgate railway stations.In fact Gateway of India is in walking distance from Church gate station.

Best time to visit: Since winter is considered as best time to visit Mumbai, so preferably from October to March.
